Biography
Bum Suk Ko
Architect | Computational Designer | Project Manager
Born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, Bum Suk Ko began his career as an architectural and visual designer before moving to Germany to study architecture at the University of Stuttgart. His academic focus combined computational design, material systems, and core architectural principles, establishing the basis for his later integration of design and technology.
After completing his studies, he relocated to Frankfurt and spent nearly a decade with three architectural and engineering practices. He started in design roles at schneider+schumacher and later worked as Senior Architect and Digital Lead at Arup. During this time, he gained experience in Building Information Modelling (BIM) and developed a balanced understanding of both the technical and aesthetic aspects of architectural practice. In 2023, he became a certified Project Manager (IPMA) and a registered German architect (AKH).
In 2025, he moved to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where he works as Creative Director of Junius International and Founding Director of Neutral Lab, a research-oriented design studio. Neutral Lab focuses on architecture, computational design, and material innovation, with an emphasis on sustainable and forward-looking construction methods.
Through Neutral Lab, he collaborates with researchers, architects, and designers internationally. His work includes experimental design projects, academic conferences, and the publication of research and design documentation, contributing to ongoing discussions about the future of the built environment.
His approach to design combines technical precision with adaptability. Whether developing computational workflows, testing sustainable materials, or coordinating interdisciplinary teams, he aims to connect design quality with practical application.
